German, David

David German

David German is a longtime Arizona resident, living and working in downtown Phoenix for over 35 years. He likes to say that he was born with a No. 2 pencil in hand, and indeed creativity and an artistic bent has been with him for as long as he can remember. But certainly every opportunity to forma lly explore and hone that artistic side of him was taken advantage of throughout his formative years. He began to more fully realize and embrace his artistic talent as he immersed himself exclusively in the art curriculum at a liberal arts college in Illinois before relocating to Arizona. Once in Phoenix, David continued to advance and refine his craft in workshops and classes at the Phoenix Art Museum, the Scottsdale Artists' School, the Phoenix Center, among others, with a particularly enjoyable two-plus years of life drawing and painting under the tutelage of Phoenix artist Marlys Kubicek.

With a new wife, school loans, and bills to pay, the oft-spoken reference to the "starving artist" seemed to override a serious commitment to being a "real artist". Thus, a career in the world of suits and ties took a front seat, and being an artist, while rearing its glorious head from time to time and for varying periods of frenzied activity, took a back seat. Many self-only-admired and often quite gratifying creations came along over the years, and an inability to not doodle at all times remained. The suits and ties now a faint memory, the passion and energy for his art and the rewarding and joyous time spent at the easel and what results therefrom is in full force, and, yes, that No. 2 pencil close by.
